Background

Rei Thielbar is a passionate Japanese-American film composer and saxophonist that has been surrounded by the music scene of LA and San Diego for several years. He is heavily influenced by film and video game composers and takes much inspiration from various Japanese artists, having grown up with the likes of Joe Hisaishi, Junichi Masuda, Kensuke Ushio, and many others. The beginning of his education focused on jazz and improvisation under the great saxophonist, composer, and teacher: Hitomi Oba. He later received his Bachelor's in Global Composition from San Diego State in 2023 working under the prolific Joseph Waters and Dr. Texu Kim. Having a love for jazz-inspired music, he was one of the co-founders of San Diego's "Supercool" band, which features a five-piece horn section, two vocalists, and a full rhythm section.
